Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~James 1:27 |

We had a great start to our trip today. Everyone arrived at the airport in plenty of time. We were able to get all of our bags checked without incident. Our flights to Miami went off without a hitch. Then came Miami. My flight arrived in Miami around 11:30am and we were expecting to depart for Tegucigalpa at noon. Shortly arriving, we learned our plane wasn’t perfectly functional so we needed a new plane. We were given new departure times of 1:45, then 2:15. We began boarding around 2:10. It was raining when we started boarding and when we were ready to go, was an all our thunderstorm, complete with pea-sized hail. As I am writing this, it is 3:50pm and we are still on the ground watching reruns of Wings and Cheers episodes. The captain just told us we will be departing soon. I hope this doesn’t completely mar the rest of the day (even though I played some euchre and saw Phil do the most breathtaking card tricks I have ever seen). More later… We finally arrived in Tegucigalpa and left the airport without incident. Luís Fernando was there when we arrived – his English is much better. His son was there as well. He took a special liking to Tyler and Davey & Braden did a great job engaging with both Luís and his son José. Luís told me Hugo’s mom took a new job which both removed him from the daycare and prevents the family from coming to church. This saddens me, but I hope to see him this week. We arrived at around 8:30pm local time (10:30pm EDT). We moved into our room (#107), had a nice dinner, and a short meeting. Levi is back and his English is also much improved. I read Psalm 19 and am writing this at 10:40 right before bed. I have already seen God work in two specific ways. First, today was utter chaos from 11:30am on, yet I have had an incredible peace with it all. Totally un-Davidlike. Second, God has blessed me with the ability to speak Spanish better than I thought possible. I’m remembering words I haven’t used in years and understanding complex sentences. God is at work – and I am honored to be a part of it.
