Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Another beautiful, glorious, Godly day! I slept much better than the first night, but was still awakened by the geckoes and the air conditioning a few times. I got another nice shower followed by a quiet time, studying Jesus healing the blind man in John 9. This passage reminds me of the simplicity of Jesus’ message and the childlike hearts we need to receive it. It was cereal and peach juice for breakfast followed by worship with Your Name and Everlasting God. A. gave an excellent word from the start of John 17 giving insight into the German translation of the passage (talking about unsheathing God’s glory like the shucking of corn). Then it was on the bus and off for Cuidad Nueva by 8:40am.

Summer camp was amazing today! It ran much more smoothly today and so many people helped in all the right ways. We started out with a little soccer than A. jumped in to lead the relay races. First was the dizzy bat race followed by a ball over/under activity, concluding with the three-legged race (pictured below). The latter was an absolute riot! The kids were falling all over each other and loving every minute of it. T. then led kickball, which the kids also got a kick out of (pun intended). We then took a Polaroid picture of each kid for the certificates. Next, we had incredible fun with water balloons. First, we did a simple toss then each kid had a chance to launch one from the 3-man slingshot at the gringos. After they shot their balloon, they went out and became a target. The kids loved it! Next, they each decorated a visor. We were running exactly on time and at 11:30 a student said schools started at noon. We then had to speed things up a bit, but A. still had the opportunity to give a great message on Job. An incredible morning!!

Before the construction team arrived for lunch, I spent a bit of time with the malnutrition clinic kids. One of them enjoyed pretending to wash my hair (below) and little active Jefrey enjoyed hamming it up with several of us. Lunch was a small beef steak (bone-in), potato salad, cucumber, and tortillas – very good.

After a short break we were back at it again. People repeated their efforts to achieve the same success in the afternoon as the morning. A few kids didn’t come back today, so we allowed about 10 more kids to join. The same activities, the same good fun. I took a few minutes to connect with a boy who hurt his wrist playing soccer named Cristian. He and his four siblings go to church nearby. B. shared her testimony to the kids very well.

I enjoyed a few minutes in the hammock before we left to do some evangelism in Luís Fernando’s neighborhood. It was almost 5:15 when we arrived so we only had time to visit one home. My group was D. from the church, D., J., A. and N. I was elected spokesperson and we arrived at the home of a woman named Carmen. Her daughter as well and woman named Norma were seated outside. We all introduced ourselves then I launched into an evangicube gospel presentation. N. added some great insights and gave them a Bible along with some food provisions. Carmen invited us inside and I asked how we could pray for them. Both asked for prayer for their families. We held hands, prayed, then left. It was a great experience for all.

Then it was back to the hotel for dinner – beef, rice, fried/cooked cucumber and tortillas. I ate every bite – it was amazing. I am writing in my room at 8:25 getting some much needed alone time. I have been loving how well our team is working together. Everybody, everybody, has been flexible and willing to jump in and serve anywhere as needed. No one is being difficult or self-centered. I have loved serving with this group of people. I’m sure my roommates will be back soon then I’ll be asleep – maybe before 10:00pm!
