Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~James 1:27 |

We awoke at 7:30am to finish our final packing. At 8am we went to spend some more time with and say goodbye to the boys. It was a lot easier to say goodbye to them than I thought it would be. Some of me thinks the guys purposefully hold back when saying goodbye – likely because they have been hurt so much in the past by people coming and going. We gave everyone a picture of us as a small gift. Then it was back to Boris & Nena’s house where we had a quick breakfast of cornflakes, oranges, and toast. Then we said goodbye to them, thanking them profusely. A man from his church, Jorge, along with his son Jorjito and friend Nelson drove us to the airport because Boris & Nena had a wedding. We got to the airport at 11:30, checked in, did some shopping, and got out plane – which was only delayed one hour. In Miami, we went through customs without incident. We had dinner at Burger King, called home, and found our gate. We had a rousing political discussion for almost an hour. It’s cool how different our political views are yet how we are such great friends. It is now 10:50pm about 45 minutes from landing in Columbus and I’m thinking about our trip as a whole. It is so hard to process and sum up such an amazing experience. David Crowder’s song Come and Listen and its words from Psalm 66 are running through my head. God has done so incredibly much. Our time at the camp was amazing. Not only did we get to spend time with the guys from Oasis, but we developed incredible relationships with the guys in our group 2nd Samuel – which was not what we planned. We got to go to Ciudad Nueva and bless the kids there with gifts (and be blessed in return) – which was not what we planned. We got to see people from the GCLA church and attend a service there. We got to stay at Boris & Nena’s house. We learned Spanish. We ate like kings. We got to pray often because with the language barrier that was often the only thing we could contribute. All we expected to do was go to camp for a week – with no more details than that. Instead, God took us to one of the most beautiful places on the earth, allowed us to bond with strangers at the camp, took us to Ciudad Nueva & Choluteca where we ministered more than we though possible, and gave us a deeper love and passion for His work and His people. Our God is an awesome God. His works are amazing. His love reaches from the highest of heights to the lowest of lows. He breaks out of the boxes I put him in and makes me dependant on him for all things. More than any other time in my life, God has directed my every step to accomplish His work in the way only He can. Stevie and I were literally at His mercy the entire week and it was great to be along for the ride. Hallelujah , for all You’ve done! |
